Welcome To Our Website
This year the Theatre Royal celebrates its 200th Birthday and its continuing role at the centre of arts in Brighton. St Peter's is not quite so old but was built in 1828 to serve a burgeoning population as the new Parish Church. With the Palace Pier and the Royal Pavilion, St Peter’s remains a significant landmark and icon in Brighton.
It is not clear that those who built the many Victorian Churches all around Brighton believed the buildings would survive more than 100 years. But most people, even if they hardly ever enter them, regard our Parish Churches as part of the cohesion of communities of the past and of the present.
Now the Church in Brighton is addressing how Parishes can work in ministry groups and, where possible, can reduce the number of buildings for which the Church is financially responsible. In their present forms some churches are no longer suitable for modern day community and religious use.
Jesus renamed the disciple Simon to Peter in a play on upon the word rock. He was to become the focus and leader for the followers of Jesus. This was the role that St Peter’s played over many decades in Brighton. Now in changing times St Peter’s seeks a different role alongside and with other Christian communities including the Chapel Royal, St Paul’s, St Nicholas and the United Reform Church at Brighthelm.
Through Grace, we can all be built into a solid foundation in the faith, through committed discipleship.
If you visit Brighton or happen to be passing, please do come and introduce yourselves. Everyone is welcome to our services and the Saturday morning coffee shop in the Church Hall.
