Choirboys of St Peter's Church Brighton

The Men and Boys Choir
The uniquely English choir, with boys providing the top line, is a tradition that dates back many centuries. From the ranks of our cathedral, college and parish church choirs have come some of our greatest composers and musicians. This tradition continues at St Peter's, Brighton's Parish Church, which has long had a reputation for fine music and singing.

There are currently 10 boys and 14 men in the choir. They sing an extensive repertoire ranging from the Tudor period to the present day. Each Eucharist includes a sung setting of the mass and a motet. Choral Evensong follows the traditional English cathedral form with an introit, responses, psalm, canticles and anthem. Each year the choir visits a cathedral to sing the services for a week and in recent years has been to Exeter, Norwich and Wakefield. This year the choir goes to Ripon.

The boys receive musical training whilst in the choir and study for the Royal School of Church Music award schemes. They may be eligible for a bursary from the St Peter's Brighton Choral Foundation. The Choir Club takes place on a Friday before rehearsals and is an opportunity for the boys to socialise, relax and play games.

The Ladies Choir
The ladies' choir was formed in 2001 and provides an opportunity for the ladies in the church to use their musical talents. There are currently 10 singers and they join the men to sing the Sunday services when the boys are on holiday and on special occasions.
