Music at St Peter's Church Brighton

Music at St Peter's
St Peter's Church Brighton has a very strong musical tradition. We currently have two choirs; the Men and Boys Choir sing at both Sunday morning Eucharist and Choral Evensong, and are helped out by the Ladies Choir during the holidays and on special occasions. Both choirs are backed up by our famous Father Henry Willis Organ.

The St Peter's Brighton Choral Foundation
These days few churches are able to attract a continuing supply of treble voices so that they may enjoy a choral tradition like ours with some of the best English church music sung to a high standard. That St Peter's is still able to do so is largely due to the foresight of a former Director of Music, Eric Spencer, who established the St Peter's Brighton Choral Foundation in 1979. The Foundation's purpose is to raise money so that it can make grants to the choirboys for their musical education and tuition. Over the years dozens of boys have benefited from this, many of them reaching high standards as instrumental performers. In addition to receiving training as choristers, not only are the boys culturally enriched for life, but they take their musical abilities into the wider community.

Recruitment
In order to continue the tradition we have, it is necessary to recruit new choristers on a regular basis. The commitment is high as the boys are required for two practices and two services each week but the rewards are high too. Any parents who are interested in their son joining the choir should contact the Church Office. There are often vacancies for adult voices.
